"'A gem in the beautiful borders area of Scotland': it is an old stone manse, run by Jacqui and Jeff Kelly, by the church in a hamlet near Kelso. She formerly ran her own restaurant in Edinburgh 'and her standard of cooking and attention to detail are exemplary', says the nominator.
'Our bedroom, one of only four, was equipped with everything one could need, and had a glorious view over the well-kept garden and beyond, to fields bisected by the shallow-running Edenwater.'
In the 'most attractive' dining room, with a similar view: 'The three-course set dinner was one of the best meals we have ever eaten (we are London-based foodies). Having enquired into our preferences and dislikes when we booked, Jacqui prepared a perfectly balanced meal: an exquisite starter of ballotine of scallops and asparagus, followed by baked stuffed sea bass with a good choice of vegetables, delicious goat's cheese on brioche with a green leaf salad and Parmesan tuile, and finally strawberries with warm bavaroise sauce. Wow! A very special dinner.

Breakfast was most inviting, and the choice of unusual juices, fruits and yogurts, followed by a variety of cooked options, concluded a perfect stay. We cannot recommend it too highly. A rare experience.'"
